The Brief

This project is a proposal for a university study building located on Leicester St. The task was to create an architectural documentation set based on conceptual sketches and engineering markups. The concept had to be modified and construction methods had to be carefully chosen so that the final design was compliant to all regulations and energy efficient.

Key concepts

The Leicester St study hub is constructued via concrete sandwhich panels, columns and beams - a basis chosen due to its structural performance, thermal performance and fire proof qualities. The exterior cladding features a rainscreen system chosen due to its thermal and water-proof qualities, with a mixture of brick slips and fibre cement battons for a sleek look that ties to the local typology. The North facade features a curtain wall window for solar access, which is shaded via a secondary skin composed of aluminum perforated panels. The roof hosts a green roof with a pedestal paver system for adequate drainage. These components come together to create a system which is structurally sound, thermally and energy efficient, long lasting and safe for all occupants.
